A Celebration and Photo Tribute for Cancer Survivors

Mercy Hospital will host a Cancer Survivorship Celebration, unveiling a photo tribute to 14 cancer survivors from Maine and growing a community of hope, strength and courage.

Portland, Maine (September 20, 2012) – Mercy Hospital will host a celebration event for cancer survivors on Friday, September 28, 2012 at Mercy Fore River. Survivors, patients, their families, friends, and caregivers are invited to attend this evening of storytelling, art, and music to share their experiences and connect with other survivors in their community.

A photo tribute of 14 survivors treated at Mercy Oncology will be unveiled at the event, telling the individual stories of survival through photography and words. In addition, an art display expressing the impact of cancer along with live music will set the scene for a night of magic and community to honor those who have survived their battles with cancer and provide support and information for those currently battling the disease.

“Lives are touched by the art and stories at this event, which provides cancer survivors the opportunity to share their experiences, reconnect with their caregivers and find strength,” said Dawn McFarland, Clinical Practice Manager at Mercy Oncology. “We saw great success last year and, again this year, we encourage anyone who has fought or is fighting the cancer battle, plus their family and support network, to attend this event, and to join together to support one another.”
