South Portland, Maine (June 19, 2012)- Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution recently donated $500 to the Eric W. Whitten Memorial Tournament, raising awareness and funds to fight Lou Gehrig’s Disease, also known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a degenerative and ultimately fatal neuromuscular disease.
The Eric W. Whitten Memorial Tournament is a softball tournament that and serves as a fundraiser for the Northern New England ALS Association. This year, the tournament will take place in July at the Wainwright Athletic Complex in Portland.
“Eric was a devout husband, father and an involved member of the community and softball world, “said Nan Whitten, founder and director of the memorial tournament. “Thanks to the help of businesses in the community we have been fortunate enough to donate over $30,000 to the Northern New England ALS Association.”
